I have abandoned my English blog, due to the problem with the missing theme. Now I have just upgraded - successfully - to Wordpress 2.5. So I hope the new theme will stay on - otherwise I will have to do some serious fixing in the dashbord-area.

It is a mystery to me. Since I upgraded this Wordpressblog successfully, I have not been able to keep the theme on. I have tried a couple of different themes, and same result. I choose a theme, upload it, and choose it in my control panel. Looks fine - but maybe next day - gone and back to default theme.
I don´t particularly like this theme with the grey header - but it is not my choise. And it has some bad effect on my interest in writing on this English blog besides my Danish blog , as long as the theme is so unstable - and boring.
I seeked advice in forums, followed some of the advise and did a few fixes, but only to get the same result - theme fallen off.
A friend of mine, who is as close to an Wordpress expert as you can get - has suddenly got the same problem with a clients blog. And now we are both puzzled - but I think getting close to a solution….the host - the server.
I have to talk to Godaddy, who is my host of this blog, about the matter. My friends host is a different one, though.
My only problem is, that if the problem is with the host, what do I do, if they can´t fix it? Do I have to live with the default theme? Do I have to move to another host?
We´ll see. I´ll call Godaddy one of these days, but if you have any solutions, just let me know.

Now, iTunes is not the only way to get podcasts, but it surely is easy, if you have an iPod og if you know iTunes already.
Beginners can watch this video tutorial by Apple - and remember - most podcasts are for free, even though they call it “subscribe” and it all is done through a store.
Enjoy

I invite you to join me at the Social Media Telesummit, a virtual event taking place February 20-29, 2008.
In just 26 sessions (30 hours in total) you’ll learn - among a lot of other things:
- How to podcast quickly and often without all the technical headaches (my session)
- Ways to produce a quality podcast that meets the demands of your audience
- Why it’s dangerous to give away all your content for free - and what to do instead
- Discover how the lessons learnt in the “old media” can be used to convince management and other stakeholders to use “new media”
- How to identify the perfect joint venture so you make money faster
- Learn the different ways to create revenue in Second Life
- How to distinguish your social media consulting services from low-cost providers
- The exact blueprint on how to create a six figure income using an audio or video podcast
- What most podcasters aren’t doing and why you should start doing it to stand out
- How to partner with other social media consultants so you can take on larger projects
I am excited to be a part of this event - together with a bunch of other speakers like Jason van Orden, Paul Colligan, Krishna De, Anna Farmery, Penny Haynes, and Leesa Barnes herself, and many more speakers, who have the possibility to teach others how to enhance their businesses with social media like podcasts and blogs.
The event is held over the phone - it is three hours a day over an eight day period, and I will be speaking for an hour on Friday the 22nd. No PowerPoint, she said, only voice and communication over phone with the participants. Quite a challenge, however a good way of forcing oneself to communicate ideas and advice through conversation.
Isn´t that what it is all about - making conversation and at the same time learning from each others successes and mistakes?

It´s like looking at a puppy or tiny baby socks. Makes you go: Oooooh cute!
The new RM Asus miniBook must be a blogger or podcasters dream of a pc to slip in the handbag out the door. It has a 7″ screen and it weighs less than a kilo. The price is £169.
I just attended the BETT education Show in Olympia in London, and there I fell in love. The RM Asus notebook operates on Linux, and there is no CD-drive, but it has wireless, all necessary software, all necessary plugs like VGA for projectors and LAN, SD-card reader, headphones and speakers. You can record sound and create your podcast on it, if you want, even. All you need on the go or at conferences and presentations. You can leave your beloved and precious laptop at home. My fear is always to drop it on some conference floor or taking it out at security at the airport.
See video presentation.
The notebook made me think of the OLPC-project. If only every child in school could have on like this. Or every blogger - like me.
Soon the notebook comes with a Windows version which means you can download all kinds of software. On your lap. Or in your handbag.

I managed to sign up as a member of Association of Downloadable Media, so I could pitch in and vote for my favourite electees. Now the list is up and I´m quite happy with it. Although not a single one of them, to my knowledge, is European.
They are good people, a good few of them I know from Newmediaexpo. The chairman Chris MacDonald is well-respected, and he and his company Libsyn is known to keep its finger on the pulse.
I know the board members will soon “get together” and decide on a lot of things, and hopefully also a strategy of how to reach out to all the European podcasters and the rest of the world.
I might join one of the committees to somehow chip in.
The five inaugural committees include:
Advertising Standards (Brian McMahon)
Education & Outreach (Rob Walch)
Measurement (Angelo Mandato)
Membership Committee (Bryan Moffett)
Terminology Standardization (David Rowley)

Not a day goes by without some new social media or social software pops up.
Don´t fret. Get educated. Start here, it says in the foreword of the little Social Media Survival Guide that I was handed at the Podcasting and Newmedia EXPO last month. I visited the OneUpWeb booth in the expo hall. What a great gift.
I consider myself a social media savvy, but still there are quite a few words in the guide, I have not heard before, and it makes me think it is best not to leave the house or the real world without a guide like this.
Now take for instance:
Adverblog - short for advertising blog - a blog used for advertising purposes
Blegging - Derived from “blog” and “beg” and means to send a query through the blogosphere in search of an answer
Clodpasting - A lame attempt to use online audio programming to launch a career into show business
Flog - A fake blog, frequently created by an agency to look as if it were created by consumers
Lilypod - A derogatory term describing a podcast that doesn’t provide the audience with meaningful information
Netroots - political activism organized through blogs and other online media
USM - Universal Subscription Mechanism. Allows certain podcatchers to automatically add a subscription from an RSS file
and more…
You can download the guide here.

Will we as podcasters end up competing and maybe even fighting to get more listeners? Sallie Goetsch from Podcast Asylum, thinks this is a risk, if we don´t find ways to get more people to listen to podcasts.
As a warmup for The NewMediaExpo in Ontario, California, I am spending my day at the PodcampSoCal. Speaking myself later on, but listening to other podcasters and saying hi to fellow attendees as they come in getting ready for the EXPO tomorrow.
Sallie spoke for a lot of us as she told us about her Podcast Asylum for people who are crazy about podcasts, listen to a lot of them and even, goes for most people here, produce them ourselves. But not everyone else outside this Convention Center shares our passion.
Sallie asked the room - who here wants more listeners? Hands in the air everywhere. So Sallie suggests to follow her example - it worked on her mother and the rest of the family, who are not so tech-savvy:
Copy podcasts, they might be interested in, to cd´s and hand them out. They can play them in their car or at home, and do we really care, if people listen on iPods or cell phones or what not?
You are right, Sallie, it is important to spread the word, the virus, the bug, the addiction and get more listeners/viewers in stead of more podcasters. I imagine the curve crossing one day, so we are more people podcasting than listening to podcasts.

I have always been a fan of George Smyths podcast One Minute How to. So I was honored to be asked to be a guest speaker on his popular podcast.
George and I were both speakers at the Online International Podcasting EXPO 2007, but we never had a chance to talk. However, when George asked me to be a guest, I had a chance to talk about myself, my favourite subject: Usability in podcasting and my new paid service as a podcasting consultant: PODHANDLE.
Item number 182, yes this guy is hard-working, is featuring me and my views on how I think usability and userfriendliness has been neglected in podcasting. Fortunately I have ideas to how this can be improved, and George gives me one minute (!) to list the features I think podcasters should include, when they publish their podcast on their blog or website.
Item number 182 can be downloaded here.
